Silas to Carina

In book: Letters

[Formatted Docs Version]

[You recognise this as Silas’ tidy handwriting, though it feels messier and rushed.]

Carina,

How have you been? Have you gotten proper rest? I will always be here to hear about your wellbeing, be it good news or not. Please do not withhold anything for my sake. Your mother has mentioned your health in a letter of her own, and rest assured that I am doing everything to make sure you are all right. The only thing I mourn is that I have not been able to see you or your mother’s face, but this distance makes me all the more determined.

I write with good news myself. I believe we are close to finding the answer to helping us. I have reunited with Laurestine. Do you remember them? They made some of your favorite toys when you were a child. You were practically dragging on their lab coat sometimes and begging them to create more. Laurestine has done further research into magic and the Boundless, and I believe it may lead us to a cure.

In addition, I have a strong theory as to the origin of our condition. I may have alluded to it in a previous letter, but now I am all the more certain…

[Silas spends several paragraphs sharing what the Wayseekers have told him about Atera and how the Emissary stripped her of Sensory magic. He explains that he is rather certain of their relation, and their last name of Danteson makes him all the more confident. He posits that their condition is the void that Sensory magic left behind.]

I believe you deserve to know all this, and perhaps it may guide your own research. There may be more value in learning from our past than I thought—I had foolishly believed this condition was unique, with no traces to be found in history. Take it from your father, Carina: keep an open mind in your research, and do not close any doors.

Be good for your mother. Eat the meals I have recommended for your health. And please, do not neglect your neighbors because you are too busy reading. It would be good for you to make friends. They will help look after you.

I have difficult decisions ahead of me, and it may be some time until I can write another letter. I am endeavoring to cure us of this ailment once and for all so that I may be with you and Mother again, and watch you grow into a life free of worries. I love you, Carina. Never forget that your father is here for you.

Love,

Dad
