The Guild Leader's Office

Light filters in through a window of the office, painting its stacked papers and wooden interior with a filter of gold. The entire room is carved of wood, its interior cozy and snug, but large enough to situate three cats comfortably. A bookshelf lines one wall of the room, its books partially emptied across the surface of the desk that was positioned vertically to the bookshelf. The desk itself is made of raw wood, its surface polished enough to be used for its intended purpose, while its beneath is still rough and unsanded. Two chairs are positioned on either side of the desk, presumably where Silas and Agnes would sit to discuss any expedition business.

Cats are now able to have one off interactions with Agnes and Silas by coming into their (temporary) office in the Greendoze Town hall! Similar to the Q-n-A at the beginning of Expedition 1, you can have your cat approach asking, interacting, or doing anything with Agnes or Silas. Feel free to write as little or as much as you'd like, and we'd send a reply back. These will not be full Roleplays, we will only reply once back (unless stated otherwise) and this interaction will be considered canon and remembered by the NPCs.

Here is an example:

Player comments:

Merle gingerly makes his way into the office, his eyes at the floor as he seems… without confidence in asking for help. Battling both pride and anxiety, he wills his gaze to meet with Agnes’.

“Pardon me.” He begins with a cough, before straightening his posture. Just so he looks less weak “It’s been perhaps a small bit of a reality check - in our last encounter, that the Boundless have been… bigger of a challenge than I originally imagined. I’ve heard you’ve dealt with some in your experience?”

“I was… looking for advice on that. And maybe general combat advice, if you have any”

Admin Replies:

Agnes greets the guild member with a grin and a wave as he enters her space. She seems hardly concerned with his initial awkwardness, but her smile makes a slight drop when he mentions the Boundless. In her returning gaze, there’s… regret. Fear? It’s supplemented with a sigh as she seems to think heavily over the conclusion to the first expedition.

“Boundless… are something to be reckoned with, I’ll tell ya that. Even with all the experience on my belt, I wish I could say anything for certain. They come in so many different shapes and sizes that you gotta be prepared for anything!”

She softens her expression and gives Merle a pat on the back, “Brave of ya, to have fought them head on. Still. There’s always things you could do to protect yourself. Protect your face, and your belly since it’s a vulnerable soft part. Aiming for the eyes of an enemy is always a good shot.”

(Members are free to put a last reply, but will not be replied further)

Have fun interacting! You may find your characters in fun situations...

He was stationed by the door, hesitating, probably long enough to warrant concern had any other cat been within his general proximity. Fortunately, for Prescott, he appeared all alone as he loitered outside the entrance to the Guild Leader's office, giving him all the time in the world to properly stew in his sense of confliction. What was there to even fret over? Agnes and Silas were welcoming, kind-hearted cats, at least, portrayed by their general dispositions. Both of these older and wiser felines made it abundantly clear that, should anyone have concerns or seek advice, their door would always be open. And it...it wasn't as though Prescott had any real head-itching questions to ask. Sure, his mind was alight, constantly buzzing with all that had occurred and the whats and whys attached to it. Yet, to vocalize any of these questions proved to be an impossibility to him. Leave that to the cats who could handle it better, he had a different reason for wanting to visit Agnes and Silas.

They're likely just as anxious over everything as you are, Prescott. The thought gave him seldom comfort. Well, in actuality...THAT was why he was here. Not for himself. For them.

Rap rap rap. His paw collided with the door a few times in a meek knock and he stood, somewhat stiffly, awkwardly, as he awaited permission to enter. A faint "It's open!" spurred him forward - that voice had to have belonged to Agnes.

"P-Pardon the intrusion..." He murmured, "o-oh, and salutations...Agnes, Silas." He gave each cat a respective nod before creeping forward, taking a moment to absorb his surroundings. So...this is where their guild leaders worked? The wooden composition and golden sunlight streaming through the window provided a cozy and serene atmosphere. He felt himself relax immensely, especially upon seeing the curious yet welcoming expressions of his two guild leaders.

They invited him to take a seat, in which he obliged. A simple "thank you" his response. "What could they do for him", a simple inquiry. Likely, they expected him to jump into blazing hot questions about the Stone Forest, or the Boundless or their magic. But, no...he was sure the two have been bombarded by those topics relentlessly since the end of the expedition. He made eye contact, drifting his gaze between the two. They seemed exhausted, stressed. He could see bags under those weary eyes, the bit of strain in their otherwise friendly smiles. Sure, these two had sent them into an expedition they had been sorely underprepared for, and...it certainly hadn't gone unnoticed to the lykoi that some cats even held suspicion towards them. He...well, he believed there were no bad intentions to be had. Of course, any cat could play dumb and hide their true thoughts, if they so wanted. To him, however, Silas and Agnes's concern felt genuine. Plus he...he wanted to believe in them. Until proven wrong, he decided he would.

"I, ah...apologize if you two are busy...but umm...there was a reason I stopped by today. Well...ha...obviously that...is the case...or else I, uh...wouldn't be here, would I?" He fiddled with the strap of his bag, embarrassed, before gently clearing his throat. "I...maybe it is...silly of me to ask but I...I wanted to know how the two of you were faring through all of this. O-obviously you...hadn't experienced what we went through...yet...that doesn't mean your emotions and w-wellbeing hold less importance. I just...felt, with all the concern you've shown us...umm...I wanted to check up on you two as well. I-if that's alright..."

"Oh...also...I...-" trailing off, he reached into his bag, pulling out a small box of truffles before setting it on their desk with a bashful smile. "I...ah...got this for you as well...t-thanks for...umm...you two saved us...and I know some mere chocolates won't take away the stress but...I...I believe in you guys!" His face was a deep shade of red now and he deeply hoped he wasn't making a fool of himself in front of these two important cats. "I...appreciate...a-all you've done...and I know...neither of you meant...or could have even predicted the events that transpired. Just...whatever comes next...I...I will trust your guidement."

(Hi! You rolled the one where Silas and Agnes aren't there, but your questions will be answered after you choose something to investigate!)

As you finally muster the courage to enter the guild leader's office, all of your internal rallying is met with a silence; there is nobody there. Your eyes drift along the room, eventually settling on the desk. Among the controlled mess lay papers, books, and a framed picture… Will you take a closer look?

Well, the scenario he had envisioned in his mind certainly didn't play out in reality...ah, to be a victim of unpredictability once more. Nevermind the fact that, in most circumstances, Prescott quite enjoyed the thrill of the unpredictable. This, however, well...he hadn't taken into account the idea that his guildmasters may not have been present in their office at all. So lost within his inner rehearsals that he hadn't truly realized that, upon his rapping on the door, no actual answer came upon him. It was merely a phantom response he heard; a trick his mind played on him. Had he known the office was empty he would have never barged in.

Erm...why...had the two kept the office unlocked anyhow? A rather, uh....oversight on their part. (And even minor oversights were things that didn't...bode well for the future.) No no, dismissing any thoughts of negativity, Prescott made to leave but halted. He should...at least leave the chocolates he bought solely for this occasion, right? He could set it on their desk and be off on his merry way. So, indeed, he ended up encroaching upon the empty room, movements a bit tentative, as though he expected someone to pop out and scold him for these transgressions. Silas and Agnes would understand, wouldn't they? All he wanted to do was leave a gift, something that, hopefully, would put a small smile on their faces.

Curiosity would be the end of him. That saying, curiosity killed the cat? Well, the boot certainly fit in his case. He couldn't help it, and oh...how it despaired him so. But, on top of that desk, his eye couldn't help but flit to what appeared to be a pictured, a framed one, at that, which could attest to its importance. Probably. Surrounding it were a plethora of opened books and various papers and...well...surely nobody would know if he...if he just took a quick peek, right? Surely not. Yeah, no, what harm was it?? Haha, but...no...no no, he couldn't. It was wrong, practically criminal! Shame on him for even entertaining such a notion! ...Yet, it was too late, he was already looking, and for much longer than a simple peek at that. His curiosity held him in its grasp, and he could do nothing more than concede to his demands.

Should one or both of the guildmasters walk in and catch him in such a loathsome act, he would practically startle out of his fur, jumping back and regarding them with wide eyes and a countenance that just screams guilt. The box of chocolates clutched to his chest like some form of lifeline. He would begin to stutter out what he had planned to ask in the first place; attempting to act as though he weren't snooping at all. It...it was only a quick glance!!! Forgive him, please!!!!

The door to the office was far more intimidating than it had any right to be. Nexus stood outside, tapping her paws with quiet nerves threatening to boil over and make her turn around. What did she hope to accomplish with this? It never worked with Beruom, why would it now?

This is bigger than you now. You have hindsight. There are lives here that you can save.

With a final, shaky exhale, Nexus steeled herself and nervously entered the room.

There was an instinctual expression of submission that she fell into, both from fear and respect, keeping her head and tail lowered as she glanced around. Almost immediately she regretted her decision as soon as she took a step into the room — what was she DOING someone was going to be punished for this — but it was too late to back out now. She had to know. She had to at least know.

“Hi,” she began, glancing up at Agnes and pausing a few paw steps into the room. She shook herself out and raised her head. “I have to ask: if someone wanted to leave the guild, what would you do?” Her voice was still soft, but a challenging tone tinted the edges. “Would you stop them?”

As Nexus enters, she finds that Agnes is in mid-conversation with Shirley.

“Two. Just two. And don’t worry about riding them or anything, too! Hey, listen, if you teach me the best ways about caring for bird mounts, I’ll cover the rest.” A sincere, and yet eager whisper is heard from Agnes, “See! You like Pip, right?”

When Nexus enters, she is faced with Agnes leaning forth with Pip in her paws. Shirley is leaning backwards, inching away from the small bird. It’s only when Pip makes a shriek to welcome Nexus, Agnes realizes the new presence.

“Oh! Nex! Hello!” The big lynx point doesn’t hide her surprise at the new visitor, arms out in welcome. Shirley shuffles aside to let any business continue, though she stands a little awkwardly in the whole room.

When Nexus speaks again, Agnes grows quiet and serious, smile fading into something sadder.

“Nah… I wouldn’t. What could I do?” She leans back, shrugs a little, “It’s all so much. Even for me. At this point already, I wouldn’t blame ‘em, that’s for sure.”

“All I can do is… ask maybe. For them to stay. I mean, Silas is more encouraging and interested in this, he says that the Guild will be the best place for any of your newly got magic to be monitored, but if they think there’s better hands to protect everyone… haha. They could be right,” She lingers in a pensive sort of silence, gaze looking away distantly before focusing back on Nexus. It seems she remembers she’s supposed to be a leader, suddenly, and then shakes herself back up to standing. She puts a paw on Nexus’ shoulder, a little more elated before, “We were lucky with the turnout of that last Expedition, and I’m not letting it go to waste if it means Waywardia can be at peace again. This time we know what to prepare for, and I’ll trade my own tail if it means everyone’ll get out alive!”

Softening once more, the paw on Nexus’ shoulder retreats, “It’d be hell of a jolly time if you stayed along.”

Lune rubbed the scar on his forehead as he slowly walked into the office. There were many things he'd contemplated asking, most of them pertaining to his thoughts about leaving the guild or the aftermath of their deaths. But in the end he'd decided to keep concealing his worries about leaving. He couldn't leave while he was still disappearing, after all. He needed answers!

"Um, hello," he began, inwardly scoffing at his uncharacteristic awkwardness, but then again, everything felt different now...

"I was wondering what, if anything, you know of our powers. Is it possible it will disappear in time?"

As Lune walks inside, he finds Silas pacing in his office, grasping a mug that he periodically sips at. When the door creaks, his attention turns to Lune. It seems Agnes is not present. "Greetings."

He raises the bizarre mug to his mouth again--really, it doesn't seem to be his taste at all, where did he get it?--as Lune poses his question, then nods.

"An excellent question, but one I'm afraid I can't help you with." He sighs. "These are unprecedented times, aren't they? From what we can understand thus far, however, these abilities seem to be a part of you."

He rifles through some papers scattered across the desk, which appear to be notes from the Guild Meeting. "Based on everybody's accounts, these powers may now be a natural part of your body, and likely due to the Laurelstone's influence. Now, what do you know about Laurelstone?"

He asks, but he quickly answers himself. "Their magic attunement does not fade unless they are broken. Therefore, my theory is that it will be the same case for you Wayseekers."

"Your scientific query is appreciated. Do come again if you've more questions, and if you're feeling, ah, uneasy about this..." Silas smiles. "Agnes may be the better cat to talk to."
